Welcome to my home page

It has been my privilege to be a member of this Faculty for the last 27 years. I began my professional career as an elementary and secondary school music teacher in London, and then as a Kindergarten teacher. Since coming to the faculty, I have taught elementary and secondary music education classes, as well as graduate courses in arts education and curriculum theory. Currently I am Chair of Graduate Studies in Education.

My research interests are varied and focus on:

1. music education in Canada
2. arts education
3. teacher development and identity
4. gender issues for males in non-traditional activities (i.e., singing)

I am co-artistic director of the Amabile Boys Choirs, London, Canada and we have about 100 boys and young men singing in 3 different choirs. These choirs have won national and international competitions, have made 4 recordings, been showcased on CBC Radio 2, Minnesota Public Broadcasting, Bravo-TV and BBC Radio. They have been invited to perform for the World Symposium on Choral Music, the American Choral Directors Association national convention, the national meeting for the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors, and at the president’s Symposium at CSSE.

Teaching in the Graduate Program:

I enjoy teaching and working with graduate students and have taught the following courses over the past few years:
