Poetry Workshops

We’re adding a pre-reading workshop feature to our poetry series. Led by Cornelia Hoogland, poet and playwright, the workshops will be held at 6:30 p.m., one hour before the scheduled 7:30 p.m. reading times, on the days of the readings, at the Landon Branch. Hoogland says that the workshop will consist of a mutually supportive group discussion of the poems that the workshop participants bring. As well, Hoogland will lead a discussion of one or two poems by that evening’s featured poet. People who do not have poems of their own to bring, but who might enjoy discussing poems, or learning more about the art form, are welcome to attend the workshop. From among the people attending this workshop two readers will be chosen to open the evening with a short reading of their own work.

What to bring: One copy of a ONE PAGE poem DOUBLE SPACED AND TYPED that you wish to share in public discussion with the group. We will photocopy it on site. IN THE MARGIN, PLEASE NUMBER EACH OF THE LINES. If you wish to be considered for the open mike part of the reading, bring 3 or 4 poems in the event that you will be asked to read. The workshop aims to create a supportive environment in which new writers feel safe to share their work.
