I am an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Western Ontario. I teach preservice and graduate courses in language arts and educational psychology. Before joining the Faculty of Education, I was an elementary school teacher.

My principal research area is the psychology of writing and writing education. Currently, I am involved in a SSHRC project on teaching students how to use writing as a tool for learning in content areas such as science and social studies. My other research interests include content area literacy, the cognitive aspects of reading education, literacy education for students with special needs, and instructional psychology.
