INTERESTS: My research and clinical interests’ center on violence and abuse in the lives of children and families and the response to these problems by professionals in the justice, social service, health and educations systems.
Dr. Peter Jaffe PhD, C. Psych.
Since 2005, I have been a Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Western Ontario and the Academic Director of the Centre for Research and Education on Violence Against Women & Children. I teach courses related to safe schools at the BEd and graduate level.
Prior to coming to Western, I worked in the community as a psychologist specializing in child abuse and domestic violence. I am the Director Emeritus for the Centre for Children and Families in the Justice System, which is a children's mental health centre specializing in issues which bring children and families into the justice system in London, Ontario. My research and clinical interests’ center on violence and abuse in the lives of children and families and the response to these problems by professionals in the justice, social service, health and educations systems.
I have co-authored ten books, 25 chapters and over 70 articles related to children, families and the justice system. I am also a trustee for the Thames Valley District School Board (formerly London Board of Education) since 1980, and served two terms as Chairperson (1987-88, 1999-2000). I have been an expert witness in three Ontario inquests into domestic homicide and was a founding member of the Chief Coroners Domestic Violence Death Review Committee. I was honoured to be named an Officer for the Order of Canada in July 2009 by the Governor General of Canada.
